CANORA - Brandi Zavislak, community development officer, led a Sept. 6 discussion in Canora council chambers regarding the proposed senior living complex for Canora.
In May of this year, Bridge Road Developments had met with members of the community and proposed a 12-unit adult living complex in the Canora Golf Course subdivision, with Canora council donating three lots to encourage the development. But Bridge Road indicated they would need commitments for 10 units in order for the project to go ahead, which has not yet happened.
Zavislak indicated that, in time, she expected Canora and area residents would come around and support this project enthusiastically.
“Our seniors need to live in a community setting,” said Zavislak. “They would be able to support each other from day to day.”
Zavislak added that efforts will continue in the coming months, possibly building duplexes initially with the services of local contractors.
“We will continue to pursue this project until we have enough commitments. Many other small towns in Saskatchewan are building these complexes, and Canora’s seniors deserve to live a high quality of life.”
