CANORA - On June 5, the Canora Supers were scheduled to host the Yorkton Marlins. Unfortunately the Marlins informed the Supers three hours before game time that they did not have enough players, so the game ended up 小蓝视频 forfeited, reported Greg Andreychuk, player/manager. It'll go down as a 7-0 Supers victory
The June 10 game scheduled versus the Parkland Pirates was rained out. Things didn’t get much better later in the week, as the June 13 the game scheduled in Yorkton versus the Saltcoats Lakers was postponed due to the field 小蓝视频 too wet from the heavy rains the night before.
The next evening, the Supers were finally able to play their first game since May 27. It was a beautiful evening in Yorkton as the Marlins were the opposition.
“After three innings, the Supers trailed 2-0, as the bats were only able to come up with one hit and nine strikeouts,” Andreychuk said. “But in the top of the fourth, the offence awakened for three runs on five hits to take the lead.”
The Marlins took the lead right back in the bottom half, but the Supers put up four in the fifth inning and never looked back in a 7-4 win.
Kholton Shewchuk started on the mound for the Supers and went two innings, allowing two runs on two hits. Derek Palagian came in relief for two innings, also allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts to pick up the win. Kody Rock finished off, striking out seven batters in three innings, including an immaculate inning (three strikeouts on nine pitches) to earn the save
“Although the Canora bats started extremely cold, they were able to come up with seven runs on 11 hits,” Andreychuk said. “Rock led the way with two singles and a run-scoring triple. Palagian had two singles and two RBI. Dylan Toffan had two singles and drove in a run. Nate Wolos chipped in with a two-run double, while the Morin brothers (Maison and Hunter) from Hudson Bay each had one single.”
On June 19 the Supers hosted the Saltcoats Lakers for the first time since 2007. None of the Lakers from back then still play, but the new generation showed up and played well in a seesaw affair with ended in a 3-3 tie.
Kody Rock was the starting pitcher, and was his usual dominant self by allowing just two hits and racking up 12 strikeouts. Unfortunately, he was charged with three unearned runs as the defence had a rough night by committing five errors.
Ian Quewezance and Jordan Auger led the way with two hits apiece. Derek Palagian also had a single, but the biggest jolt was a Grady Wolkowski two-run home run to tie the game at three in the fifth inning.
“The rest of the offence just could not get anything going off of Lakers pitcher Brandon Spilchen, who had eleven strikeouts of his own,” said Andreychuk.
The tie improved the Supers record to 3-1-1 on the season, with three wins and a tie following their opening game loss.
The next game for the Supers is on the road in Yorkton against the Parkland Pirates on Thursday, June 27.
