GOOD SPIRIT - In what has quickly become a popular tradition, the Good Spirit Cross Country Ski Club held another successful Lamplighter Loppet on Feb. 11 at Good Spirit Provincial Park, according to Club President Darryl Stevens.
Participants pre registered on line through Zone4.ca with over 70 ski enthusiasts attended this annual skiing event, taking advantage of unusually mild temperatures near the freezing mark.
“They were welcomed by freshly-groomed trails and strings of lights as they approached the ski shelter,” said Stevenson. “There, hot chocolate and hot dogs were served prior to the fireworks show.”
The star-lit sky also provided its own show as three planets were clearly visible, with Venus and Jupiter shining brightly as a backdrop to the fireworks. Mars could also be seen directly overhead, providing many picturesque photo opportunities.
Event organizers noticed a large increase in children among the skiers as compared to last year's participants.
“This is exciting to see as they are hopefully candidates for the future of the ski club,” said Stevenson. “I would like to thank all the organizers who make the event a truly enjoyable skiing experience. We look forward to the remaining ski season and another Lamplighter Loppet next year.”
