The Parkland Expos, bolstered by players from Canora and Sturgis, took their perfect league record of 20 straight wins into the playoffs. In the semifinal on August 25 the Expos downed the Regina Athletics 14 to 4. In the final game the next day the team continued to roll, shutting out the Regina Expos 11 to 0, thus earning them the 2021 U15 AA Regina Minor Baseball Championship.
The team had a number of fine individual contributions from local players on the road to the title, according to a report from the playoffs.
Xage Miraflor of Sturgis hit a home run and drove in three runs in the semifinal. Canora’s Ty Sleeva started and pitched a solid game in the semi and also made his presence known on offence, scoring two runs throughout the playoffs. Unfortunately, Kim Albarracin of Sturgis, a valuable member of the team, was unable to play in the playoffs.
Thus ends one of the best U15 seasons in the Parkland’s history, with an overall record of 28 wins and only two losses, a record that won’t be challenged by these players as most of them graduate to U18 next year.
