Father Charles Baxter, the chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, blessed the pussy willow branches in anticipation of Ukrainian Palm Sunday on April 8 at the Canora Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Palm Sunday, held the Sunday before Easter (which for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is on April 16) commemorates Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The pussy willows represent the palm branches that the crowd scattered before Christ as he rode into Jerusalem. The churchgoers then took the pussy willows home.Devan Tasa / Canora Courier
