INVERMAY- In a true example of co-operation, all four members of the Invermay School graduating class of 2022 combined forces to create the valedictorian’s speech for their class, which was delivered during the graduation exercise on June 29.
“Throughout all the years we’ve been here, we want to honour some of our memories with you here tonight,” began Trinity Fidek. “We all have someone we are talking about in our valedictory speech.
“Ivan Marasigan was the most recent to join our Grade 12 group, so it’s been a couple of years since I’ve known him. Ivan isn’t always the most talkative, and is commonly known for arriving around 10, 15 minutes after the bell rings, or maybe it’s less.
“There’s one thing I’ve seen and that’s him СƵ told to keep his head up, mainly by Ms. Teh, because it looks like he’s trying to constantly sleep.
“Ivan would somewhat be willing to participate in school events, but he also seemed to like to stand in the background instead. A lot of the times Kim would volunteer Ivan for something, but he might not want to do it. Kim would get it trouble and Ivan would laugh.
“But to say Ivan was completely quiet would be a lie, it seemed like he was always seen talking to Kim, whether it was class time or recess.
“So to sum up Ivan’s character, he is quieter with some, talkative with others, and most of the time seen coming in late. Aside from that, best of luck in whatever you do.
“Next up we will have Ivan, who will be talking about Kim,” concluded Fidek.
“Hello everyone, it’s an honour to be standing before you all today as the Invermay School graduating class of 2022,” said Ivan Marasigan. “Today I’m going to talk to you about one of the people that was very close to me ever since I got here to this school, and that person is Kim.
“First of all, he was always signing me up for everything and telling Mrs. Grona that I’m saying something so he can get me in trouble. I’m going to start with the bad things he did. It’s not that serious, but you can say it’s bad. He was the guy that loves to say something unpredictable that left the whole class and the teacher in shock or laughing most of the time.
“Kim is also known as a talkative, energetic person who really loves to annoy the whole class, especially the teachers,” continued Marasigan. “Kim was always coming up with a way to annoy the class every single day. Mrs. Grona and Mrs. Teh are the ones who were really tired of the annoying sounds that Kim was making.
“Now I’m going to talk about the good things he did for me and the class. He was the reason why I know a lot of things that really helped me. He’s basically the reason for everything that happened to me in school and why I know other people, why I joined basketball, why I go to some school events. He was also helping his other classmates when they needed help. He really helped me and the others a lot and I’m thankful for that. That’s all, thank you everyone for listening to me,” concluded Marasigan.
Kim Villette responded by sharing his thoughts on Cole Serron.
“I’ve known this guy for four years,” shared Villette. “He and the boys are the reason why I wasn’t shy any more. They encouraged me to socialize with others and talk to people. Cole is the type of guy that is willing to help you no matter what.
“I remember the time when I hit a ditch in front of my house. There was a guy helping me already. Cole passed by, then turned around and helped me get out of the ditch. Even though we were late for class, he chose to help me instead of just going to class and not СƵ late. Even though we were both behind in class, he’d still help me with some of my assignments. That’s why I appreciate this guy so much, because he’ll try his best to help you.
“Me and Cole are like the class clowns, we’d get in trouble every single day,” continued Villette. “I don’t know why, but Cole is such a weirdo. He’d look at me and laugh for no reason. Then I’d looking back at him and we would start laughing at each other for the rest of the class. When Ms. Teh called us out, Cole would blame me for laughing. Then Ms. Teh would make us do 10 push-ups, but I don’t regret it because I had fun.
“Cole is such a good friend. That’s why I’m really grateful and proud of what Cole and I accomplished in school. Cole is a very smart, energetic, talkative and helpful person. That’s why I thank him for СƵ part of my high school life. I wish you all the best in life, bro,” concluded Villette.
Cole Serron was the closing speaker, and his subject was Trinity Fidek.
“Trinity, where do you even start,” wondered Serron. “Trin and I have been in school together all the way back to Kindergarten. We have had students come and go throughout our class, but we are the only ones who have been here since day one.
“Trinity makes the rest of us look really bad because she is always the first to finish her assignments and definitely has the best grades out of all of us. When the rest of us don’t understand something in class, she always tries her best to help out and explain it to us.
“Other than academics, Trin is usually a pretty happy, positive and energetic student. You can usually find her dancing around the halls or in the gym, it’s pretty funny.
“Trin may be shy, but you’d better watch out when we play floor hockey, because it completely changes. A whole different competitive and energetic side comes out. It is really funny watching her slash Nathaniel’s shins and making him fall to the floor in pain.
“Trin loves participating in school activities and dressing up. She would always have a better Halloween costume than me with a bunch of face paint and other props, usually making the other kids jealous. She is definitely not one to say ‘no’ and always loves to make smart remarks.
“This concludes the valedictory speech. We hope you enjoyed hearing what we are like, during class and outside of school. With all of us moving on to our next step of life, we are grateful that all of you are here to celebrate with us tonight.
“We are honoured to be Invermay School’s graduating class of 2022.”
