After a fairly quiet spring, members of Canora & District Fire Rescue were called to a major fire at Burgis Beach in the early hours of June 21, the first day of summer, according to Jess Harper, fire chief. 鈥淲e got the call at 12:15 a.m.,鈥 said Harper, 鈥渁nd we got back at around 9:30 a.m. so we were at the site for around eight hours. When we arrived on the scene, it was just a big ball of fire. Four cabins were lost in total and another was damaged.鈥
Harper said three of the cabins were fully involved when they arrived, and they didn鈥檛 have time to get around the side of the buildings to save the fourth cabin. 鈥淭hankfully no one was injured.鈥
The Rhein fire department was called in for mutual aid, and according to Harper, 鈥淭heir help made a big difference.鈥
