CANORA - During the first three weeks of the new semester, the Grade 11 Foundations 30 class embarked upon a Money Consumerism Unit. Mr. Lowes, our math teacher, complemented our teachings by inviting Kristin Olson and Shean Plosz from our local Crossroads Credit Union to provide a presentation on the following topics: student loans, credit cards, investments, retirement plans, simple interest, compound interest, and the “Rule Of 72,” which according to Kristin Olson is “for estimating an investment’s doubling time.” The presentation also included a small quiz for the students to remember what they’ve learned. If a student answered correctly, they would get a chocolate coin. Each student also got their names put into a draw to win a prize. The prizes included a pair of wireless earbuds, a Crossroads cup, and a portable phone charger.
Global Story of The Week
Connor Bedard was the star of the show at the Regina Pats home game against the Medicine Hat Tigers on Feb 22 after helping the team claim a 6-3 victory. Bedard contributed to every goal for the Pats with one goal and five assists. This win moved the Regina Pats up to sixth place in the WHL Eastern Conference. This win makes the Pats neck-and-neck for the race to the playoffs, which Bedard was asked about during a post game interview with 980 CJME & 620 CKRM going into the upcoming game with Brandon. “Yeah I think so, I mean we know the value of every game and obviously this weekend too. Brandon’s really close and you know I think there’s that six to ten even you know six to eleven there is pretty tight, so every game’s so huge and every point’s massive, and you know obviously pretty fired up going into each game.”
Since Bedard’s record-breaking performances in the World Juniors last month in the Maritimes, arenas have been selling out with people flocking to try and see the all star play in person.
Bedard’s outstanding skills have gotten some NHL teams that are in the bottom of the rankings excited as they may get to pick him in the upcoming NHL draft, in which he is expected to be selected first. The coach of the Arizona Coyotes was actually mad that his team has won every game since the NHL All-Star game, because the team’s recent success may have left them behind in the standings to pick Bedard before every other team. No matter who the 17-year-old from British Columbia is chosen by, Canadians and other hockey fans will be ready to cheer on Connor Bedard and his mind blowing moves.
