CANORA - Staff and students at Canora Junior Elementary School celebrated Saskatchewan Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week from Feb. 9 to 15.
CJES Principal Shawna Stangel said the week filled with “the outpouring of support, positive thoughts, actions, words, and surprises from the School Community Council, Crossroads Credit Union, Canora RCMP and Parents was much appreciated. You all ensured that our hearts and our bellies were full.”
The week started on Monday morning with all staff СÀ¶ÊÓƵ treated to hot coffee and delicious muffins to help fuel the day. This special treat was courtesy of the CJES School Community Council.
“Our wonderful Administrative Assistant Kim Hladun was honoured and recognized for her 25 years of dedicated service to Good Spirit School Division on Monday. Kim has worked as both an educational assistant and an administrative assistant during her time at CJES.”
The SCC ensured that staff could enjoy the entire week with a duty-free noon hour. Lunchtime noon supervision was organized by SCC Treasurer Lauren Mentanko and was provided by a number of parent and community volunteers every day during the week.
Among those providing noon hour supervision were: Michelle Lowes (parent volunteer), Alina Khrul (Credit Union staff volunteer), Lauren Mentanko (CJE-SCC Treasurer & Credit Union volunteer) and Shawna Stangel (CJE Principal).
“Staff so appreciated the time to sit, eat, visit, and digest their lunch,” said Stangel.
Noon-hour volunteers helped with lunchroom tasks in supporting children with their lunches and cleanup, supervising indoor recess due to the extreme cold temperatures, and they also supported students who attended and participated in noon hour Craft Club activities.
“We say thank you to the following noon hour volunteers who were a mix of CJES parents, Canora RCMP and Crossroads Credit Union staff,” said Stangel. “Lauren Mentanko, Jeannine Owchar, Jeff Keyowski, Ashley Trach, Lisa Lizotte, Ashley Dutchak, Sgt. Derek Friesen, Cst. Baily Espinoza, Cpl. Taunya Kondratoff, Curtis Scheltgen, Michelle Lowes, Nolan Kondratoff, Alina Khrul and Kylee Toffan.”
On Thursday, all CJES staff were treated to a delicious home-cooked lunch expertly prepared by Parent Chef Curtis Scheltgen.
“Three different types of lasagna, salad, veggies, and buns made for a satisfying, belly-filling, comfort-food lunch for staff.,” said Stangel. “The literal ‘icing on the cake’ to this amazing meal was the cookie, cupcake, and fruit treats provided for staff from Crossroads Credit Union. And the best part was that there were enough leftovers for staff to have lunch on Friday, too!”
Friday concluded the week with the SCC once again showing their appreciation and love toward all students and staff. Allergy aware cookies, prepared by 3G Catering and provided courtesy of the school’s SCC, were a yummy Valentines Day treat enjoyed by the entire staff and student body.
“This was a wonderful and enjoyable School Staff Appreciation Week!” concluded Stangel. “We thank our SCC and our parent and community volunteers for truly making us ‘feel the love’ this Valentine’s Week. We love our students, we love our school, we love our community! CJES is an amazing place to be!”
CJES School Community Council executive members who were involved in organizing the events during Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week included: Melissa Scheltgen – chair, Taunya Kondratoff – vice-chair, Jessica Kwas – secretary, Lauren Mentanko – treasurer, and Melissa Pozniak and Lisa Lizotte – parent representatives.
