Children learn Bible lessons in fun camp atmosphere

This year's Vacation Bible School theme was "Camp Goodness: Do not Forget to Do Good," held at the Canora Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

CANORA- The Canora Seventh-Day Adventist Church held its second Vacation Bible School on July 22 to July 26. This year’s VBS theme “Camp Goodness: Do not Forget to Do Good,” drew a total of 21 kids who joined the fun learning about good manners and respectful behaviours in accordance with the Bible. It was held in the ground floor of Canora SDA Church, where the whole ground floor was transformed into a camp-like area complete with a teepee and a campfire.

On Day 1, the kids learned about the story of the 10 lepers and the importance of gratitude and saying, “Thank You.”  They had fun colouring, completing crafts and what is more exciting than eating s’mores to end the first day?

Day 2 was about saying “honey words” or kind words. The kids had a delight learning how words affect other people like “honey.”

The fun continued on Day 3, where everyone was versed in doing good things confirming to the Golden Rule. The children memorized several Bible verses, Bible songs and ways to respect themselves and others to develop the ability to build positive relationships.

On the fourth day, an area of the ground floor was transformed into a “cave.” Inside the makeshift creation, the kids learned that even in the dark they can be a “Light to the World.” Each four days of the VBS ended with different exciting crafts, enjoyable activities and delicious snacks and refreshments.

The last day was a recognition of the participant’s hard work as each child received a ribbon or award of good deed. The recognition program was attended by parents, Canora SDA church Pastor Jose Quezada and members of the church as the kids presented Bible songs and Bible verses that they learned throughout the VBS. The week ended with high spirits, appreciation and hearts filled about God’s love and promises from the Bible.

The Seventh Day Adventist Church of Canora will continue to hold the Vacation Bible School in the succeeding years for a week for all children interested during the summer holidays.  Keep an eye out for next year’s VBS theme and registration announcement. Proverbs 22:6, “Train up the child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”  In Vacation Bible School, the children are not only building experiences they will treasure and remember but make new friends, learn about Jesus and develop life lessons from the Bible.
