CANORA - With districts just ahead, competitors from Canora Composite School continued to battle and produce strong results at the Saltcoats Autumn Summit cross-country meet on Sept. 27.
Coaches Leona Kitchen and Thomas Lowes reported that “The Saltcoats Autumn Summit is always a favourite for our runners because it is a true cross country trail through trees and around fields. The weather was nice and warm with a little breeze that pushed the runners to the finish line.”
Results for CCS runners included five top-tens and a number of personal bests.
For U10 and U11 competitors, the run distance is 2km.
In the U10 girls run, out of 70 runners, Riley Roberts placed 23rd in 11:28 and Ashton Lamb was 31st with a time of 12:41.
Out of 85 runners in the U11 boys event, Coy Kraynick finished 13th (9:22) and Connor Pozniak came in 42nd (10:30).
The U11 girls field included 54 runners. Olivia Owchar placed 25th (11:47) and Cora Tomcala was close behind in 26th with a personal best time of 11:51. Antonia Gallego finished 31st (12:14) and Rayna Edison was 41st (13:40).
Starting at the U12 age group, the race distance goes up to 3km.
In U12 boys, out of 43 runners, Drew Kitchen finished seventh (14:05) and Camryn Burym placed 37th (18:16).
CCS had three runners crack the top 20 in U12 girls. Talia Collingridge achieved fourth place (15:17) in a field of 35, followed by Rachel Mentanko in 17th (17:11) and Hannah Dutchak in 20th (17:43).
The U13 boys event included 36 runners, with Isaiah Crow placing 29th (17:03) and Raphael Rollin close behind in 30th with a personal best time of 17:16.
Angel Sliva finished fourth in U13 girls with a time of 14:29. In the field of 28 runners, Maggie Lemaigre finished 18th (17:37).
The U14 boys event featured a field of 24 runners. Reid Kitchen ran a personal best time of 16:39 to finish 20th.
The 16 runners competing in U14 girls included a pair of CCS athletes. Madison Dutchak placed eighth in a personal best time of 16:38 and Tessa Prychak finished 15th (21:15).
William Sliva placed 10th in U15 boys (16:10) out of 12 competitors.
Danielle Dutchak was 17th (20:31) in U15 girls in a field of 19 runners.
Beginning with the U16 age group, the race distance increases to 4km.
Out of 11 runners in the U16 boys event, Kayden Harder finished 11th (no time was available).
“All of our runners did well,” said coaches Kitchen and Lowes after the Saltcoats Autumn Summit. “With one race left, districts, at Jaycee Beach in Yorkton, we are expecting our runners to have their best run of the season!”
Districts were scheduled for Oct. 2.
