CANORA - The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 21 calls from November 4 to November 10, some of which included: seven provincial traffic offences, five other provincial statutes, one drugs, one theft, three mischiefs, and one other incident.
Uninvited farm visitor
On November 4, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle driving around a farmyard in the RM of Clayton. Police identified the driver and continue to investigate.
Needle found
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on November 5 of a needle found near a playground in Canora. Police attended and disposed of the needle.
Young 911 caller
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a 911 hang-up from a cell phone on November 6. Police were advised by dispatchers that a child was heard on the line but no emergency was reported. Attempts to call the phone number back were unsuccessful.
Buyer beware
On November 6, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a reported fraud where the complainant sent a $100 deposit at the request of the seller to secure the purchase of an item found on Facebook marketplace. The complainant drove to Yorkton and found the seller’s address to be false. As a result, the complainant was no longer able to contact the seller to get their money back.
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP have received numerous complaints about fraudsters posting items for sale on Facebook marketplace and buy and sell pages. Oftentimes, the seller will request a deposit to secure the sale of the item, usually through an e-transfer. The seller will either block the buyer or back out on the deal and refuse to return the deposit money back to the buyer. Please use caution and do your homework before sending a deposit.
