The weather finally co-operated on the evening of June 17 as the Supers played host to the Parkland Pirates. It was a little windy, but otherwise a great night for baseball as the Supers pounded out 18 hits in a 13-4 victory, reported Greg Andreychuk, Supers player/coach.
After a scoreless first inning, the Supers put up six runs in the second with a combination of six hits and several errors by the Pirates defence.
“The Pirates responded with three in the top of the third,” said Andreychuk. “But the Supers answered with three in the bottom of the inning, and four in the fourth to give plenty of breathing room for the pitching and defence to coast for the rest of the game.”
Kody Rock, Dylan Toffan and Clay Sleeva each had three hits to lead the offence. Kholton Shewchuk, Zach Rakochy, and Grady Wolkowski had a pair each. Derek Palagian, Jayden Heskin and Brendon Landstad each contributed one hit to round out the offensive attack.
Making their first appearances as Supers were Canora 18U Reds call-ups Hunter Lamb and Nate Wolos.
“Tanner Denesowych was in fine form on the hill, tossing six innings while allowing four runs (two earned) on just three hits with eight strikeouts to collect the win,” added Andreychuk. “Dylan Toffan finished off the game, allowing just one hit while striking out three in the final inning.”
The Supers then hit the road for back-to-back games on June 20 in Langenburg and June 21 in Yorkton.
It was a disappointing evening in Langenburg as Canora went down to defeat to the Legends by the score of 8-3.
The Supers could not get much going offensively, as Legends pitcher Jose Mendez kept them down to just three runs on a total of eight hits.
“Kody Rock continued his stellar season with three singles and drove in two runs,” continued Andreychuk. “Shae Peterson had a single and a double. Evan Rostotski, Kholton Shewchuk, and Canora Reds call-up Porter Wolkowski each had one single apiece. Porter made his Supers debut and also scored a run. Hunter Lamb drew two walks and scored a run.
“Shewchuk pitched four innings and took the loss. Shae Peterson came on in relief allowing no runs on four hits with one strikeout in an impressive pitching debut.”
The following evening in Yorkton it was a much different story, as the Supers cruised to a 9-0 win over the Marlins.
“This game was the Kody Rock Show, and everyone had a front-row seat,” said Andreychuk. “He started on the hill, and gave up just one hit with 18 strikeouts in what can only be described as a masterpiece.”
The Canora bats were in top form, led by Clay Sleeva with three singles.
Parkland AA Expos call-up Jeff Stewart had a single and a hard-hit triple to deep centre field. Rock and Derek Palagian each added two singles. Kholton Shewchuk, Travis Mentanko, Logan Wolkowski, and Brendon Landstad each chipped in with singles.
“The offence put up three runs in the third, fifth, and seventh innings respectively,” reported Andreychuk.
After the two-game road trip, the Supers record sits at five wins and two losses.
The next action for the Supers is on the road in Yorkton against the Marlins on July 5. They return home for a date in Canora versus the Langenburg Legends on July 6.
