CANORA - “A Common Thread” is the name of a quilting and needlecraft group from Canora and area. On July 18, as part of Canora in Bloom, the group held a quilt show at St. Andrews United Church. Karen Kraynick, a member of the group, said it was a welcome opportunity to show of a number of the quilts made by group members.
“Some of our members have been involved in quilt shows in other communities, and we decided to put on a show in Canora,” said Kraynick. “It’s a good way to get members of the community involved, and also find out if anyone is interested in joining.”
Kraynick said newcomers to quilting are always encouraged to get involved with the group.
“We receive some funding from the Town of Canora through Sask Lotteries, which allows us to offer classes and bring in expert quilters.”
A wide variety of quilts made by group members covering a broad range of themes were on display at the quilt show.
Among the comments overheard while visitors were admiring the quilts was, “This is the best this church has ever looked.”
