CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 27 calls from June 6 to June 12, some of which included:
- two 911 Act calls,
- one animal call,
- two bylaw offences,
- three failing to comply with conditions,
- one Fire Prevention Act call,
- two frauds,
- one harassing communications,
- one Liquor Act call,
- one Mental Health Act call,
- three mischiefs,
- one possession of methamphetamine,
- one offender management,
- one theft over $5,000,
- four traffic offenses,
- one traffic collision,
- one well小蓝视频 check, and
- one prisoner.
Not gunshots; fireworks
On June 11, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to report of gunshots coming from the backyard of a residence in Buchanan. Police investigated the report and determined there was no gunshots and the noise were caused by fireworks. Please be mindful that you may be in contravention of a town or rural municipality bylaw if you are setting off fireworks.
Heavy truck ticket
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP stopped a heavy truck operating on Daniels Drive in Canora on June 8. The driver was issued a $500 ticket under the Town of Canora traffic bylaw for operating a heavy vehicle outside the designated hours of Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The bylaw is clearly posted on a sign on Daniels Drive alerting heavy vehicle drivers of the rules. Warnings were previously issued to drivers by the Canora/Sturgis RCMP. The Canora/Sturgis RCMP will continue to work with the Town of Canora to prevent heavy trucks from operating on Daniels Drive outside the designated hours of operation.
Speeding leads to arrest
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP stopped a vehicle on Norway Road in Canora on July 8 for speeding. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for an outstanding warrant of arrest for three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, tampering with a VIN, breach of probation and three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. Police located an energy drink stash can in the vehicle that contained a small amount of methamphetamine. The male driver was remanded into custody.
Public intoxication
On June 7, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of an intoxicated male sleeping on the ground in Canora. The male was arrested for public intoxication and held in custody until he was sober and able to take care of himself.
Noisy car
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a loud vehicle complaint in Preeceville on June 7. A Chevrolet Monte Carlo was reported to be driving around town with a broken exhaust. Police patrolled but were unable to locate the vehicle.
School fence damage
On June 7, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated damage done to the chain link fence at Canora Elementary School. The fence appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. Canora/Sturgis RCMP are asking the public to contact the Canora RCMP Detachment if you have information about this incident.
