Canora looking forward to fun-filled activities in 2022

The popular Live & Play Street Festival is returning to Canora in 2022

CANORA — After the removal of COVID restrictions, excitement is building in the Canora area for the return of a number of activities that were sorely missed since the beginning of the pandemic.

Brandi Zavislak, community development officer, said the Canora Tourism Fundraising Committee is looking forward with a great deal of anticipation to the coming 2022 season.

“Our committee members are super involved and dedicated to promoting people’s happiness, health and well 小蓝视频,” said Zavislak. “One of the biggest benefits for the coming year is that they have once again hired a summer student.”

Canora’s Downtown Market will be held at the CN Station House Museum this summer, and is scheduled for every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting on June 16 until late August.

“The community really missed the Farmers’ Market last year due to COVID and the vendors were quite upset,” shared Zavislak. “We’re looking forward to having it back this year and we’re focused on highlighting the downtown business community.”

New features for the market this year will include barbecues and outdoor speakers to provide music for vendors and customers to enjoy. A special evening market featuring beer gardens and beef on a bun will be held on July 22 to coincide with Community in Bloom, which runs from July 16 to 22.

“People missed Community in Bloom a lot when we couldn’t have it,” said Zavislak. “Even though it’s still months away, some community groups have already shown their interest in getting involved. Of course, we’re looking for more.”

The arrival of August means the return of the Live & Play Street Festival, which was very popular in 2021 and interest is already strong for this year.

“After only one day of having the notice on Facebook we already had 25 vendors lined up,” reported Zavislak. “We are also looking for talent showcase entertainers.”

Last October there was a great deal of disappointment around town when the Live & Play Cabaret had to be cancelled due to pandemic restrictions, but plans are underway for the event to return in 2022. The committee is looking for sponsorships and donations towards silent auctions or raffles.

Funds raised through these various events will go towards a variety of place-making projects throughout Canora.

“All of these projects will improve the design and management of public spaces,” said Zavislak. “Place-making capitalizes on a local community’s assets, imagination and potential. The ultimate goal is to create the most unique, economically-driven community and leader in rural revitalization.”

Those looking for more information or to get involved are encouraged to phone Town of Canora Tourism Fundraising Committee members Jessica Kwas at 306-562-8444, or Brandi Zavislak at 306-562-8002.
