CANORA — The Canora Composite School (CCS) Cougars junior boys basketball team was the class of the field at a weekend tournament hosted by Yorkton Sacred Heart High School on February 4 and 5 with three straight wins.
The team started fast in it’s first game on Friday versus St. Henry’s of Melville, according to Kim Eiteneier, coach.
“We won by 40 points led by Mathew Makowski and Andrew Owchar with 20-plus points each,” said Eiteneier. “The first game on Saturday against Melville was close all the way through. We were down by two at halftime and up by four after three quarters. We ended up with a nine-point victory. Once again the top scorers were Andrew Owchar and Mathew Makowski.”
The third and final game for CCS was later in the day on Saturday against the host team from Sacred Heart, with the Cougars earning a 63 to 44 victory. Leading the way offensively for the winners were: Briel Beblow, Andrew Owchar and Mathew Makowski.
