CANORA - Student athletes representing Canora Composite School brought home a pair of medals from SHSAA Provincial Track and Field in Saskatoon on June 2-3.
According to Thomas Lowes and Leona Kitchen, coaches, “We had a fantastic two days.”
Matthew Makowsky won a silver medal in junior boys high jump by clearing 1.76M, and also placed 21st in the 400M in a time of 59 seconds.
Joey Palagian was a member of the senior boys 4x100M district relay team that won a bronze medal with a time of 45.36 seconds. In individual events, Palagian finished seventh in the 200M with a time of 23.96 seconds, and eighth in the shot put with a throw of 12.43M.
Hunter Lamb competed in the senior boys 3000M and placed 23rd in 12 minutes, one second.
In senior girls discus, Kailey Sleeva finished 18th with a distance of 22.39M.
Zoe Thomas placed 23rd in senior girls 80M hurdles in 16.47 seconds, and 26th in the triple jump with 8.49M.
“We enjoy watching our CCS students push themselves out of their comfort zones, to strive for personal best performances, despite the heat and humidity,” reported coaches Lowes and Kitchen. “Attending provincial competitions like this allows our athletes to see some amazing competitors and open their eyes to new opportunities. There are so many great benefits and lessons learned that come from participating in sport.”
