Badminton tournament attracts competitors from across the region

Canora players achieve success in CCS junior badminton tournament

CANORA — Canora Composite School hosted a junior badminton tournament on April 12. In addition to CCS student athletes, other players who took part came from: Kamsack, Invermay, Norquay, Sturgis, Yorkton Scared Heart High School and Yorkton Regional High School.

Ty Sleeva led the way for CCS competitors, winning the gold medal in boys’ singles. Briel Beblow also made it to the semifinal round, giving CCS two of the top four finishers.

In girls’ singles, Falyn Ostafie of CCS finished in the top four.

Ava Love and Makayla Heshka won a second medal for CCS, finishing second in girls’ doubles. Jessee Koplechuk and Alaina Roebuck also made it to the doubles semifinal round.

Miah Ruf and Ira Mykytyshyn competed in mixed doubles and gave CCS another top-four finish, making it to the semifinals.

Other CCS competitors at the tournament were: Chloe Pshyk and Jada Nordin in girls’ singles, and Noah Prychak and Sofia Tratch in mixed doubles. CCS also entered two teams in boys’ doubles; Connor Kraynick and Tucker Mydonick, and Lucien Carlson and Michael Desrosiers.

Other team members who did not compete in the tournament were: Kaelyn Shukin, Paisley Wolkowski, Natalie Pshyk, Silver Nordin, Connor Nordin and Joshua Prychak.

The CCS junior badminton team coaches are Koren Baillie and Jennifer Sleeva.
