On May 24, eighteen students participated in the Saskatchewan Safety Babysitter Training Course at Canora Composite School. Students enrolled in the course were expected to complete all required assignments, practicum experience activities, and conclude the course by achieving the compulsory passing final examination mark.
Shawna Leson, program leader, facilitated the course which included lessons entitled: Babysitter Basics, Child Care I and II, Safety Smarts and Handling Emergencies, Basic First Aid, and Playing with Children.
“Following the written portion of the examination, the students left the course with two compulsory homework tasks; a practical assignment and a mini Resume,” said Leson.
“The practicum included a minimum of four unpaid hours of babysitting for a local family and involved feedback kindly provided by the parents who remained present throughout the practicum. Once these remaining assignments are completed and submitted, the students will receive their certification and will be enthusiastically prepared to start babysitting in the community.”
The Canora Wheatland Lioness previously sponsored this important opportunity in Canora.
“It is wonderful to see it continue to be offered and successful. A huge thank you to the CCS staff for providing the facility used to administer this course,” concluded Leson.
