The oats crop seeded as a fundraiser for the Preeceville Hospital Building Fund is doing well in comparison to the rest of the crops in the area, said Jim Ward, chairperson for the project.
Fifty acres were seeded on May 26 through the combined efforts of Maple Farm Equipment, Tonn Farms, Edgar Thorson and the Town of Preeceville.
鈥淭he crop is pretty much average in comparison to other crops in the area,鈥� said Ward. 鈥淭he lack of rain this year has been a real challenge for every agricultural producer. The crop could be better
if we get some rain, but for the most part, the oats crop is growing well considering that it was directly seeded into a hay field.鈥�
The Town of Preeceville recently purchased spray herbicides and Maple Farm Equipment supplied the manpower and equipment, he said.
The next step will be the harvesting of the crop in the fall.
