BEIJING — Canadian speedskating star Charles Hamelin won't compete for a medal in his last individual Olympic event after failing to advance in the men's short-track 1,500 metres.
Steven Dubois was the only one of the three Canadians in the event to advance to the A final. Pascal Dion failed to advance past the semis.
Hamelin, 37, had hoped to add a sixth career Olympic medal in his fifth and final Olympics.Â
Fellow Canadians Alyson Charles and Courtney Sarault are both moving on in the women's 1,000 metres, while Quebec's Kim Boutin was eliminated in heartbreaking fashion.
The 27-year-old Sherbrooke native was leading her heat when she slipped and fell just metres from the finish line.Â
Sarault, from Moncton, won her heat, while Montreal's Charles originally finished third but was sent through to the quarterfinals after the judge ruled that she'd been bumped by France's Tifany Huot Marchand.
