GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALBERTA — RCMP say a five-year-old child has died in a crash in northern Alberta where they say it appears a pickup truck slammed into vehicles that were stopped at an intersection near Grande Prairie.

Police say five vehicles were involved in the crash Saturday afternoon on Highway 43 at the intersection of Highway 43X.

A five-year-old resident of Clairmont, Alta., was dead at the scene.

Multiple others were injured.

Other patients were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police say the crash is still under investigation, but the say initial reports indicate a Ford F350 pickup was driving east on Highway 43 when it approached the intersection of Highway 43X and ran into two pickups, an SUV and a semi that were stopped for a red light.
