REGINA — Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan is eagerly awaiting the start of the first Open Farm Days next month.

Open Farm Days got its start in Atlantic Canada and has since spread to Ontario, Alberta and now Saskatchewan.

Co-ordinator of Saskatchewan Open Farm Days Ashley Stone says 40 farms from Val Marie to Carrot River will be open for tours. People who visit a farm will “experience grain farming, dairy production and interactions with various animals such as cattle, alpacas, horses, sheep and chickens” and “explore gardens, orchards, apiaries and unique experiences that offer a glimpse into the daily lives of our rural communities and producers,” Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan said in a media release.

“I think almost every aspect of agriculture we’ve encompassed this year,” added Stone. “Pretty impressive to be able to showcase the diversity of our agriculture sector.”

From traditional farming to regenerative farming and organic, Stone says there is much to learn from these farms, adding it's an opportunity for the host farmers to tell their story about what they do and why.

There are two ways to experience Open Farm Days — one is driving yourself to participating farms, which can be found on the , and the other option is by taking a bus, which requires registration in advance.

Open Farm Days are on Aug. 10 and 11.
